Number Of Small Business Loans Increases

Last week the financial media reported on how the number of people being accepted for a new homeowner loan had increased during the past couple of months and that there was also an increase in the number of new mortgage products available on the market for those looking for a loan, showing that consumers are starting to get a little more confidence back and banks and building societies are starting to relax slightly with regards to offering new loans.

It would appear that it is not only lending to individuals which has seen an increase, but there has also been an increase in the number of small business loans being offered by banks.

According to the most recent monthly report from the British Bankers Association (BBA), the total amount approved by the banking sector in small business loans increased by £211 million during the month of February and with the January results showing similar levels of new lending, this could be a sign of some consistency entering the loan markets, with levels of optimism and confidence returning to both business owners and lending institutions.

In addition to these loan figures, there were a total of 44,000 new small business accounts opened with banks over the course of February.

Of course, this could be a sign that the Government’s bail out schemes and loans to banks, which were conditional on the understanding that the banks passed on the benefits to customers in the form of new loans, are finally starting to take effect and filter through to those people who really need the funding, that is, small business owners who may be struggling through the current economic climate and potential home buyers looking for a suitable secured loan to allow them to make the move they want, or get themselves onto the property ladder.
